The Phoenix Business Journal and HandsOn of Greater Phoenix named John C. Lincoln's Desert Mission and Ameriprise Financial - Phoenix branch a "Most Outstanding Partnership."

The third annual Heart of Business awards ceremony was held Tuesday, Nov. 9, at Phoenix Art Museum.

Desert Mission, John C. Lincoln's community service arm, and Ameriprise Financial, the spin-off independent company of American Express, were recognized among the Valley's most benevolent volunteers for their tireless support of nonprofit organizations and community members in need.

Employees of the Ameriprise Phoenix branch, 2512 W. Dunlap Ave., have a history of donating to Desert Mission and volunteering to support its programs (Food Bank, Children's Dental Clinic, Community Health Center, Marley House and more).

Since 2002, employees have assisted year-round with collection drives for Desert Mission — food, school supplies, hygiene items, diapers, etc. They regularly staff volunteer shifts to pack emergency food boxes and stock shelves at the Food Bank.

While some companies may see this year-round commitment as a sacrifice, the 167 employees at the Ameriprise Phoenix branch see their involvement as a way to truly make a positive difference in their community.

"To date, they have donated over 12,000 pounds of food, $45,000 in grants and financial support and provided more than 100 hours of their time to support families in need," said Cindy Hallman, Desert Mission and Community Services vice president.

Nearly 250 business and nonprofit leaders attended the awards banquet. Desert Mission was among some of the top nonprofit groups in Arizona, including the Ronald MacDonald House and Boys and Girls Clubs, which also were nominated for the 2010 Outstanding Partnership award.
