Seven physicians from John C. Lincoln's Hospitals and Physician Network have been honored as Health Network Physicians of the Year in recognition of their medical service, leadership and service to the community.
Honored for Distinguished Medical Service are Patrick S. Sciara, MD, Robert A. Comp, MD, and John B. Lees, DO; selected as Rising Physician Leaders are Jatinder S. Somal, MD, Anselmo Garcia, MD, and Aaron Boor, DO; and James R. Fishman, MD, was recognized for Citizenship and Community Service.

The Distinguished Medical Service category recognizes physicians practicing patient care who are outstanding clinicians, demonstrate excellence in medicine or surgery and represent John C. Lincoln's mission and values in the areas of leadership, mentoring, excellent patient care and customer service.
The Rising Physician Leader honors physicians within the first eight years of professional practice after residency and/or fellowship training for outstanding achievement in the areas of leadership, mentoring, excellence in patient care and customer service within the John C. Lincoln Health Network.
Citizenship and Community Service recognizes physicians who have made an outstanding contribution to the community in the form of citizenship and public service above and beyond the call of duty.
Physicians are nominated by colleagues, Network employees or volunteers. A committee of John C. Lincoln co-workers and administrators reviewed all nominations, and recipients were chosen by the Network Board of Directors.
Ceremonies were held last week and on Monday in conjunction with National Doctors' Day. Following are excerpts from winners' nominations.
John C. Lincoln Deer Valley Hospital
Patrick S. Sciara, MD, an internal medicine specialist and hospitalist, for Distinguished Medical Service:
"Dr. Sciara is compassionate and caring and not afraid to speak his mind when it is needed. His patients ask for him by name (which they cannot always say correctly) . . . family members know him by his reputation."
Jatinder S. Somal, MD, an anesthesiologist, as Rising Physician Leader:
"His performance as a leader is extremely professional . . . He is passionate about his work, his patients and contributing to improving patient outcomes . . . strives to keep himself educated about new techniques."
John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital
Robert A. Comp, MD, a pulmonologist, for Distinguished Medical Service:
"When folks wonder what's 'the right thing to do,' Bob is the 'go to guy.' The best for the patient and the most ethical path are the guides for his recommendations."
Dr. Comp, the first physician to be honored twice by John C. Lincoln, was named North Mountain's Physician of the Year in 2005.
Anselmo Garcia, MD, a pulmonologist, as Rising Physician Leader:
"He is known for his ability to work collaboratively with nursing staff and physicians . . . Trauma service, the hospitalists and the ED physicians . . . with his quiet but determined demeanor, he has been able to gain consensus toward higher quality care."
James R. Fishman, MD, a urological surgeon, for Citizenship and Community Service:
"As a member of the John C. Lincoln Health Foundation Guild, Dr. Fishman helped raise more than $1 million in philanthropic support for both the hospitals and Desert Mission programs. Dr. Fishman's personal characteristics represent all that is good within the John C. Lincoln Health Network."
John B. Lees, DO, medical director for John C. Lincoln's ACO transition coach program, and family physician at Deer Valley Medical, Glendale, Distinguished Medical Service:
"During 2012, the John C. Lincoln Accountable Care Organization recruited servicemen and women who had served as combat medics and corpsmen to assist frail elderly patients transition from inpatient care to their homes. As medical director of this unique program, Dr. Lees devoted many hours to mentor the transition coaches for outstanding success."
Aaron Boor, DO, family physician at Del Lago Family Medicine, Peoria, as Rising Physician Leader:
"One of the most significant 2012 accomplishments was the Network-wide implementation of JCL Connect/Epic electronic health records. An extraordinary amount of planning and physician instruction was required; Dr. Boor volunteered his own time to provide many hours of group and individual instruction for Physician Network physicians and staff."
