John C. Lincoln Named a 'Best Place to Work' in 2008

John C. Lincoln Health Network has been named among the "Best Places to Work" in the Valley of the Sun for 2008. The honor recognizes how the Network has created a positive, productive work environment that retains valued employees.

This is the fourth time in which John C. Lincoln has made the Best Places to Work list since it debuted in 2003.

"We work hard to provide all our team members with a supportive work environment where they can excel at what they do best — caring for our patients and providing Desert Mission community services for those in need. It's great to see those efforts recognized by this award," said Dan Coleman, CEO, John C. Lincoln Health Network.

The award is given by the Best Places to Work in the Valley of the Sun, a consortium that bases its results on employee feedback. In order to be included, companies had to register for the program and a minimum percentage of their employees had to complete an employee survey administered by Best Companies AZ, LLC, in partnership with The Phoenix Business Journal.

John C. Lincoln Health Network ranked second this year among "Extra-Large Companies," a new category including Valley businesses with more than 3,000 employees.

The Health Network is a not-for-profit organization that includes hospitals, health centers, physician practices and a network of charitable community service programs. John C. Lincoln provides a continuum of hospital, health and human services for people of all ages, health needs and socioeconomic conditions.

More than 3,000 health professionals from hundreds of specialties provide patients and clients with award-winning medical services. From nursing care to community service to business ethics and more, John C. Lincoln has been honored by experts with awards for practically every aspect of what the Network does.

John C. Lincoln Health Network includes John C. Lincoln Deer Valley Hospital, John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital, multiple physician practices, John C. Lincoln Health Foundation and Desert Mission Food Bank, Community Health Center, Lincoln Learning Center, Marley House and Children's Dental Clinic.

The Best Places to Work program is designed to establish positive outcomes for companies that make the list, including increasing their financial performance. Some of the specific areas of improved financial performance that firms with better workplace practices have experienced are:

  • Lower turnover costs. Companies on the Fortune "100 Best" list have turnover rates that are typically about one-half that of their industries.
  • Ability to attract and retain higher quality candidates.
  • Lower costs associated with the negative aspects of bad workplaces — better attendance, lower medical costs resulting from stress-related illness, fewer on-the-job accidents.
  • Higher levels of innovation and risk-taking.
  • More pride and a higher degree of satisfaction among the existing employees.
