Meniscus transplant surgery may be necessary when a torn meniscus — which typically does not heal well — cannot be repaired surgically. In such a procedure, diseased meniscus tissue is transplanted from a donor cadaver (an "allograft" meniscus transplant).
A meniscus transplant is more appropriate for the younger, more active patient who shows no signs of severe arthritis.
The interactive video shown below provides an overview of meniscus anatomy and demonstrates how a meniscus transplant is performed.
