Patient-Focused Positions

If you would like to volunteer in a role that involves direct interaction with patients, the following patient-focused volunteer opportunities may be a good fit for you. If a position listed below matches your interests, we invite you to complete our volunteer application form.

Opportunities at Deer Valley Hospital

  • Friendly Visitor: Bring brightness and cheer to a lonely or bored patient by talking, reading, playing cards, etc. Must be friendly and caring, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Great smile required. This is a very rewarding position.
  • Emergency Department: If you remain calm in a crisis, this position is for you. Whether it's assisting with information, comfort and support when scared patients and their loved ones arrive at the Emergency Department OR assisting the clinical staff by stocking, running errands, making beds or answering phones, your excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed. Evenings and weekends. (Please note: This position is for our adult volunteers only.)
  • Mendy's Place: Comfort scared children and stressed parents visiting Mendy's Place, our children's emergency center. Support nursing staff by stocking, answering phones, running errands, and giving out stickers and popsicles to the patients. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to relate to children in a positive, friendly manner are needed. Evenings and weekends.
  • Nursing Care Units: Help patients have the most pleasant hospital stay possible by providing comfort and care. Support the nursing staff by answering intercoms, stocking supplies, running errands, discharging patients and passing meal trays and water. Your support will enable the nursing staff to spend more time with each of their patients. Position requires a compassionate, friendly person with initiative. Interest in the medical field is helpful.
  • Spiritual Support and Clergy: We are committed to caring for the whole patient. Help meet patients' spiritual needs through non-denominational or specific faith visitations. Training in ministry work and recommendation from local religious organization required. Ordination required for nondenominational Clergy position.
  • Patient Hospitality Services: This program provides newly admitted patients with needed items and services that will make their hospital stay more comfortable. If you've ever been a patient, you know how comforting it is to be treated as an individual and to have all of your non-clinical needs met by a caring, compassionate person. Friendly and outgoing person with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who really wants to help others is needed. Weekday hours (evening and weekend hours may be available).
  • Pet Therapy Partners: A loving animal is the best medicine. You and your certified therapy pet visit patients bringing them great joy and unconditional love. It's also a great treat for our staff. Information on certification is available.

Opportunities at North Mountain Hospital

  • Adult Day Health Care: Assist staff at John C. Lincoln's Adult Day Health Care Adult Day Health Care Center with recreational activities for participants.
  • Children's Dental Clinic: Serve as a liaison with clients and the public, and assist with clerical tasks at the John C. Lincoln Children's Dental Clinic.
  • Pet Therapy Partners: A loving animal is the best medicine. You and your certified therapy pet visit patients bringing them great joy and unconditional love. It's also a great treat for our staff. Information on certification is available.
  • Spiritual Support: We are committed to caring for the whole patient. Help meet patients' spiritual needs through specific faith visitations. Training in ministry work and recommendation from local religious organization required.
  • Unit Volunteers: Assigned to specific units to assist nursing staff as needed. Duties including transporting patients, replenishing patients' water, running errands, spending time with patients and more. (Training required from nursing.)
  • Patient Hospitality: Push cart of supplies into newly admitted patient rooms, welcome patients to John C. Lincoln, offer to assist and provide with complimentary items. An additional 6 hours of training is required.
