Getting a body scan can bring peace of mind and even save your life by detecting heart disease, lung cancer, colon cancer and other serious conditions before symptoms arise.
But before you get a scan, it’s smart to compare the various scans that are available and understand the Pinnacle Radiology difference.
CT Scans Versus MRI Scans
Pinnacle Radiology is committed to providing you with the best examination and the best value for your money.
Our heart, lung and virtual colonoscopy scans are done using a CT scanner that provides provides accurate, high-quality images quickly. The scanner uses the minimal level of radiation necessary to generate these images.
You may have seen advertisements for “non-radiation” or “MRI whole body” scans. MRI scans cannot perform the Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring test that a CT scan can perform. While MRI can scan the lungs, it is not the standard of care for lung imaging. MRI is also not a viable choice for virtual colonoscopy.
Facilities that offer whole body scans using MRI often perform the heart scans, lung scans and virtual colonography at an additional charge, using CT scans to do the tests. Before you make an appointment, make sure you understand what technology will be used for the various parts of the test.
Some places also offer screening tests of the carotid arteries using MRI Angiography, which is very expensive.
At Pinnacle Radiology, our carotid artery screening is done by ultrasound, costs just $45 and is the same type of test that health care providers order for diagnostic carotid artery examinations.
