A Patchwork of Hope
When a co-worker is diagnosed with cancer, John C. employees respond with heart
Debbie Arnett, educator in the CCU and Cath Lab, was diagnosed with cancer in July. "It’s been a rocky road," she says. But Debbie’s a fighter, and she’s in it to win it.
Recently, co-workers from across the Network pitched in to create a one-of-a-kind, inspirational quilt to show support for Debbie’s journey. The project was the brainchild of Ann Campbell, CCU charge nurse.

"There are a lot of lives Deb has touched while working here," Ann says. "I thought this would be a great way for them to show how they feel."
Respiratory therapists Deanna Brooks and Kelly Handorf volunteered to assemble the quilt. They learned that Deb’s favorite color is mint green. The quilt features 15 large mint-green squares. Most have nine smaller, six-inch squares in complementary beige.
"The small squares contain messages of encouragement, love, prayers and laughter," Ann adds. "They represent how Deb has touched so many people while working here. This quilt shows all the love, respect, hope and encouragement that we have for Deb while she deals with her cancer."
The caring and inspirational messages offer a profound example of co-workers bonding together to support one of their own.
"I really appreciate the support that everyone has given me," Debbie says. "It’s an amazing quilt that has pieces of things I’ve done and people I’ve known at John C. Lincoln over the past eight years."
