Professional Practice Model
Our Professional Practice Model is a reflection of many activities we’ve undertaken to:
- Help develop each of us individually as nurses;
- Develop the structure in which we perform; and
- Define and improve the processes in which we deliver care
We’ve addressed all three components with one goal in mind: improved patient outcomes.
Our Professional Practice Model is best understood by moving from the theoretical framework we embraced to the conceptual model we’ve used for how we operate. As we’ve taken each model to a more concrete stage, we’ve not only defined how nursing care is delivered in our hospital, but have now produced a two-year Nursing Strategic Plan to continue our commitment to nursing excellence and an evidence-based practice.
With evidence-based practice, our goal is to embrace research and translate it into the actions we must take to produce the best patient outcomes.
Nursing care that relies on research is possible here because our Professional Practice Model has an ever-evolving number of programs to support:
1. Professional Development
These are the activities that help each of us develop our clinical skills and our roles as nurses.
2. Professional Recognition
This encompasses the many ways John C. recognizes, celebrates and rewards our nursing achievements.
3. Leadership Development
These are learning opportunities that enhance our growth not only as nurses, but in all facets of our lives where we may need to step out as people that others admire and want to follow.
4. Team Building and Cultural Diversity
By growing in our respect for one another – whether it’s on interdisciplinary teams or understanding different ethnic views – we enhance our ability to deliver caring and appropriate nursing care.
5. Work-Life Balance
Because John C. recognizes that a rich and rewarding personal life contributes to our ability to be great nurses, we enjoy a number of programs that make it easier to balance our personal and professional responsibilities.
