Progressive Telemetry at
John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital
Overview
The Progressive Telemetry Unit at John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital cares for all types of medical telemetry patients, especially those requiring pulmonary or renal care.
Patient Population
In addition to caring for med/surg Telemetry patients, the Progressive Telemetry Unit is the only unit outside of the hospital’s two Intensive Care Units that cares for ventilator and Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) patients.
Unit Size
The Telemetry unit, located on the east wing of the sixth floor, consists of 36 beds; all are semi-private with the exception of four private rooms.
Scheduling & Shifts
Schedules in the Telemetry unit are flexible and RNs self-schedule. Twelve-hour shifts are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Clinical Support
Overall, RNs in the Telemetry unit enjoy a 4:1 patient-to-nurse ratio. RNs caring for ventilator and CAPD patients are staffed at a 3:1 ratio. All 36 beds are monitored 24 hours a day by highly trained monitor technicians. RNs also receive support from a discharge nurse, PCTs, free-floating charge nurses, a unit-based educator, pharmacist and case management team to assist with the highly complex patient population. A 24-hour Rapid Response Team is also available to assist.
