Overview
The Critical Care Unit (CCU) at John C. Lincoln Deer Valley Hospital provides high-quality care for critically ill cardiac, medical and surgical patients.
Unit Size
The CCU is a 32-bed, all-private-room unit.
Scheduling & Shifts
Schedules in the CCU are flexible; self-scheduling is done with consideration for specialty programs. RNs may occasionally float to other departments, including Telemetry and the Progressive Cardiac Care Unit (PCCU). The 12-hour shifts are from 6:45 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. and from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m.
Clinical Support
Staffing is composed primarily of RNs, using a monitor technician/unit clerk as support. A Certified Nursing Aide and a Respiratory Care Practitioner may be stationed on the unit on an as-needed basis. A 24-hour Rapid Response Team is dispatched from the CCU.
Unit Design
Instead of inheriting workspaces that didn't meet the needs of the staff, nurses worked alongside architects to design the Critical Care Unit, located on the second floor of Pavilion 2.
