A $100,000 grant to expand services provided through the partnership between The Wellness Community – Arizona and the John C. Lincoln Breast Health and Research Center is just one of 11 Guild GOLD (Giving Others the Lincoln Difference) grants totaling $279,950 that were approved by the John C. Lincoln Health Foundation Guild at its spring meeting.
The breast cancer grant will serve the patients of the North and West Valley by providing up to four free educational conferences each year that showcase a variety of cancer subjects and guest speakers. It will also fund weekly free breast cancer support groups and programs.
The Guild is a group of business and medical professionals formed to support the work of the John C. Lincoln Health Foundation. Among this year’s projects are:
- A palliative care program at North Mountain Hospital focused on relief of pain, stress and debilitating symptoms of serious or chronic illness, especially among the hospital’s aging patient population. $36,000.
- A new teaching microscope for hematology at North Mountain. $13,000.
- An 80-foot ceiling mounted track in the Deer Valley Orthopedic Unit to suspend a device that supports orthopedic patients for care and therapy and stroke patients with limited ambulatory abilities. $50,000.
- Upgrades to the chapel at North Mountain Hospital including new chairs and paint for the walls. $14,000.
- Adult Day Health Care funding including scholarships for low-income clients, a shade structure for outdoor activities and storage shed for garden equipment. $16,000.
- Funding for prescriptions, durable medical equipment or transportation costs for discharged patients. $15,000.
The Guild hosts two annual events, the Night of Gold Ball and the Lincoln Guild Invitational Golf Tournament. More than 600 leaders in the medical and business community attended the 2010 Night of Gold Ball, where their generous contributions raised more than $400,000 and set a new record for the 41-year-old event.
