As an affiliate of John C. Lincoln Health Network, Desert Mission Neighborhood Renewal (DMNR) is a community development corporation that facilitates the development of housing, neighborhoods and businesses in the geographical areas served by the Desert Mission.

Designed to create safer, stronger communities, our programs span home development, housing counseling, homebuyer education, home purchase assistance, homeowner assistance and economic development. We work in synergy with other Desert Mission programs.

Home Development

DMNR develops two- to four-bedroom energy-efficient homes for homebuyers. Home purchase and closing cost assistance from the AZ Department of Housing may be provided for homebuyers who are income eligible.

  • Vogel Condos: The newest DMNR housing project is the 12-unit Vogel Condos, located at 13th and Vogel avenues.
  • Mission Lane Townhomes: Mission Lane Townhomes development is planned as a 42-unit mixed-income green project.

Housing Counseling

Counselors provide one-on-one counseling to help families become educated consumers, who can determine whether and when homeownership is right for them. We also seek to help clients address financial and other barriers to homeownership such as credit, saving, budgeting, employment and establishing alternative forms of credit. All counselors are nationally trained and certified by NeighborWorks Center for Homeownership Education and Counseling (NCHEC). Desert Mission Neighborhood Renewal is an approved HUD counseling agency. Call 602-331-5833 for more information, or visit HUD.gov.

Homebuyer Education

Become an informed consumer before making the largest purchase of your life. The Homebuyer Education class is HUD/FHA-approved and covers the home-buying process from A to Z in eight hours. This course helps families prepare for the purchase of a home. Monthly classes are scheduled at two different locations. See schedule for details. (PDF document; requires Adobe Reader) Topics include the importance of good credit, how to shop for a loan, how to shop for a realtor, the closing process and the responsibilities of home ownership, including home maintenance. To register, call 602-331-5833.

Home Purchase Assistance

Desert Mission Neighborhood Renewal helps individuals and families realize their dreams of homeownership by providing information on available home purchase assistance programs. For more information about DMNR's purchase assistance programs, click here. Call 602-331-5833.

Homeowner Assistance

DMNR provides services that help income-eligible homeowners with the maintenance of their homes, including replacing the roofing, installing new air conditioners or painting the home's exterior.

To find out if you meet the income eligibility requirements for the programs listed above, please call DMNR at 602-331-5833.

Economic Development

DMNR provides leadership in the implementation of community-driven strategies for economic development, street safety and overall visual appeal in north Phoenix by introducing development resources and facilitating private/public partnerships.

Hatcher Road Project: A group of people representing a cross-section of the community has been developing ideas for improving the appearance and safety along Hatcher Road.
