About Phoenix: The Valley of the Sun
With more than 300 days of sunshine a year, it's easy to understand why people love living in the Phoenix area.
The "Valley of the Sun" boasts dozens of golf courses, miles of hiking trails and endless hours of recreational fun at nearby lakes. Sports fans can find plenty to cheer about while watching the Valley's professional football, basketball and hockey teams and World Series championship baseball team. Cultural activities are plentiful, too: The Valley is home to the Phoenix Symphony, Ballet Arizona and many diverse theater and arts organizations and venues.
Phoenix also is an ideal base from which to explore the rest of the American Southwest. Weekend trips to Southern California's beaches or the Arizona-Mexico border are just a short drive away. And there are plenty of sites to visit in Arizona as well. The Grand Canyon and Sedona's red rocks offer breathtaking views. The state's southern areas are home to several landmarks that highlight the West's rugged landscape, including Saguaro National Park and Kartchner Caverns State Park. And despite Arizona's reputation for warm weather, it's easy to hit the state's ski slopes during winter. A short trip to one of the ski resorts in northern Arizona or the Tucson area promises plenty of snowy fun.
