Student Nurse Advancement Program
At John C. Lincoln Hospitals, it’s a "snap" for students to balance school and work. The hospitals’ Student Nurse Advancement Program (SNAP) gives students clinical experience, provides mentoring opportunities and removes barriers to attending school.
SNAP also addresses common problems facing those considering a college education in nursing. Through SNAP, nursing students can:
- Get tuition assistance
- Earn money, payable the next day
- Obtain insurance for themselves and their family
- Schedule their hours around their classes and other commitments
- Accumulate benefits
How Does SNAP Work?
SNAP is designed for students working toward a BSN or ADN degree at an accredited college. As they advance in school, SNAP participants also advance in their employment and can earn raises:
Junior Year, BSN / Year 1, ADN:
- Block 1: A nursing student hired as a SNAP employee will work as a Student Nurse Tech I. This job provides students with experience in transporting patients, answering the phone on the unit, changing linens, and sitting with patients who need extra supervision.
- Block 2: Students would then transfer to Student Nurse Tech II and start to perform more patient care technician work.
Senior Year, BSN / Year 2, ADN:
- Block 3: Students transfer to a Nurse Extern position.
- Block 4: Students may transfer to a Nurse Intern position. Becoming a Nurse Intern requires a post-graduation commitment and an appropriate orientation to work for John C. Lincoln Hospitals.
