For Tom Batson,
Volunteering Is a Family Affair
By day, Tom Batson serves as senior vice president of the investment firm Morgan Stanley. But as busy as that job may keep him, it’s far from being the only "hat" he wears.
Tom also volunteers in many capacities with the John C. Lincoln Health Foundation. He currently serves on the Foundation’s executive board as treasurer, he’s president of the Lincoln Guild board, and he heads up the Foundation’s gift policy and recognition task force. He has also chaired the Foundation’s investment committee.

The Batson Family: Tina, Tony, Tom and Gina |
While Tom has been heavily involved with the Foundation for the past several years, his experience with John C. Lincoln dates back even further.
"Both of my children were born at John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital," he says, referring to 15-year-old Tina and 13-year-old Tony. "My wife Gina grew up in the area, so it was her community hospital as a child."
Volunteering at John C. Lincoln has become a family affair for the Batsons. His mother-in-law worked at the hospital at one time, and his mother volunteers there now. Gina has served as a volunteer for some of the Guild’s fundraising activities like the Night of Gold Ball, and Tina has been a part of Lincoln’s youth volunteer program.
"We’re thick as thieves there in terms of our involvement," Tom says jokingly. On a more serious note, he explains why he’s so committed to working with John C. Lincoln Health Network.
"I believe it’s vitally important that we have a healthy, successful and locally based non-profit hospital in our area," he says. "The quality of care is second to none, and the good that we do in our community is irreplaceable. It’s that combination of quality health care and wanting to continue to be in a position where we can provide the social services that are being presented to the neighborhood."
For a committed volunteer like Tom, it’s all in a day’s work.
