Designed for Less Stress, Faster Care

Meet the new Emergency & Level I Trauma Center at John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital

When health hangs in the balance, you want the best care possible—every technological bell and whistle, delivered by medical experts who truly care about you as an individual. Surely that’s not asking too much, is it?

Not if you come to the new expanded Emergency and Level I Trauma Center at John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital, which opened to the public on October 10, 2007.

John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital’s new Emergency and Level 1 Trauma Center, located at Third Street and Dunlap, opened its doors to the public on Wednesday, October 10. The 36,000 square-foot center is part of an ongoing construction and renovation project for the award-winning hospital.

Two roof helipads triple the hospital’s capacity for direct patient air delivery. Separate entrances for ground ambulance and public access reduce congestion.

Inside it just gets better:

  • Patients all have private rooms with doors
  • Seven fast-track rooms provide care for patients who have less serious emergencies
  • Patients with more serious conditions can be triaged and taken directly back to a bed for treatment before registration
  • Specialized rooms for stroke and heart attack patients, and other conditions help expedite treatment for complex cases
  • Four trauma bays, completely equipped for the most critically injured patients, double the size of the existing Level I Trauma Center

All of this—and more—is no accident. Jeff Tschetter, RN, clinical director of Emergency Services at John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital and a team of nurses, physicians, emergency service personnel, police and security experts—even the FBI—collaborated with architects to design the new Emergency and Level I Trauma Center.

The Healing Garden offers a calming environment for family and friends of emergency patients.

“We met weekly for a year, and collaborated with one another with one goal in mind: to design a patient and family-focused Emergency and Trauma Center,” said Tschetter.

As a result, each of the 37 individual treatment rooms and four trauma bays is designed in a multitude of ways to protect patient privacy and increase comfort.

Long waits, common in most Valley emergency departments, are not only minimized by the triage system, but also by readily available support services and new processes made possible by the center's architecural design.

Even the decor of the facility is designed for quality care. Clinical research has shown that nature has a healing effect on patients. Soft lighting, natural colors and natural elements incorporated into everything from wall glass to photography create a peaceful, calming atmosphere throughout the new center.

And there’s something really special and unique in the North Mountain emergency center: it includes a “healing garden” for family and friends who are waiting for news about a loved one receiving care. The John C. Lincoln Health Foundation Guild contributed funds to develop the garden space.
